How the cursive f works — joins, family, and the usual mistake

F belongs to the loop family (b, e, f, h, k, l) and is its only member that dives below the baseline. Curling the bottom loop to the left (like g) strands the exit stroke on the wrong side — f's bottom loop closes to the right.
