Getting a good graffiti name
- Keep it short Writers pick short tags for a reason: four to six letters stay big and readable across a page.
- Try capitals Blockbuster and throw-up read best in capitals. Tag and marker look more natural in mixed case.
- Print, then build on it Trace the printed outline onto a sketchbook page, then add your own drop shadow, highlights and arrows.

Tag is a quick, narrow street signature. Marker looks hand-drawn with a felt tip. Throw-up is fat, rounded and slightly overlapping, the style most people learn first. Spray has a spray-paint texture. Blockbuster is heavy, straight-sided capitals, leaned forward. Each one is a different typeface drawn as an outline, so the same name reads differently in each.
