Styled versions (for your About Me / bio — not the Online ID itself)

Your PSN Online ID is plain ASCII only — letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores, nothing else, ever. That's a hard rule from Sony's own account documentation, not a guess. So the styled fonts above are for your PS5 About Me / bio field and PSN messages — surfaces that genuinely do accept pasted Unicode and emoji — not the Online ID field itself.

For the Online ID, use the plain-text ideas below or the live checker above, which validates against Sony's actual 3-16 character rule.

How to Change Your PSN Online ID

PS5 console

Settings → Users and Accounts → Accounts → Profile → Online ID → accept the warning → enter your new ID → Check Availability → Order & Pay.

PS4 console

Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Profile → Online ID → same flow as above.

PlayStation App

Profile → Edit Profile → Edit next to Online ID → complete the purchase.

Web

Sign in to your PlayStation account online, open Profile in the sidebar, select Edit next to Online ID, and check availability.

Cost: your first change is free. Every change after that is paid — PlayStation Plus members get a discount. There's no cooldown and no limit on the number of changes, so you can keep paying to change it as often as you like. Reverting to a previous Online ID is always free, and Sony keeps your old ID reserved to you (not claimable by anyone else) for 30 days after you move off it.

Can I Use Symbols or Fancy Fonts in My PSN Name?

Not in the Online ID itself — it's ASCII-locked to letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores, and must start with a letter. No spaces, no emoji, no styled Unicode, full stop. This trips up a lot of "fancy font for PSN" tools that don't clearly separate the Online ID from the rest of your profile.

Where styled text and emoji genuinely do work: your PS5 About Me / bio field and PSN messages both accept pasted Unicode. Use the generator above for those — and a plain-text idea from this page for the Online ID itself.

Does Changing Your Name Affect Your Game Data or Trophies?

Not automatically, but it's a real risk in specific games, not a myth to wave away. Sony's own compatibility documentation lists games with "critical issues" after a name change (lost progress or unlocked-content access), a longer list with "minor issues" (mostly stale leaderboard names or reset settings), and hundreds of newer titles with no known issues at all — every PS4 game published after April 2018 was required to support the change cleanly. If you're renaming an account you've played specific older games on, it's worth checking Sony's current tested-games list before you commit.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the character limit for a PSN Online ID?

3 to 16 characters. It must start with a letter, and can only contain letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores after that — per Sony's own account documentation.

Can I use symbols or emoji in my PSN name?

Not in the Online ID itself — it's locked to letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores, full stop. Where styled Unicode and emoji genuinely do work is your separate PS5 About Me / bio field and PSN messages. A tool that promises fancy fonts will paste into your PSN username is wrong about where that field actually applies.

Is it free to change your PSN Online ID?

Your first change is free. After that it's a paid change (PlayStation Plus members get a discount), though there's no limit on how many times you can change it and no cooldown period — you can just keep paying for it. Reverting to a previous Online ID is always free.

Does changing your PSN name delete your trophies or game data?

Not automatically, but it's a real per-game risk, not a myth — Sony maintains its own list of games with known issues after a name change, ranging from stale leaderboard names to actual lost progress in a small number of older titles. Check Sony's tested-games list for your specific games before changing.

Is this PlayStation name generator free and safe?

Yes — completely free, no sign-up, no app. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server.
