The rufiyaa sign (, U+20C2) is the currency symbol for the Maldivian rufiyaa. Its design, by Hassan Shujau, takes the Thaana letter ރ (raa) — the first letter of ރުފިޔާ, rufiyaa — and adds a horizontal stroke across it, the same visual convention that turns a plain letter into a currency mark in the euro, yen and Indian rupee signs.
