How do you change your Roblox username?

Changing your Roblox @username costs 1,000 Robux every time. There is no free first change, no 60-day free period, no exception.

Your display name is free to change once every 7 days. If you only want people to see a different name in-game, change the display name — you pay nothing.

Many guides claim username changes are "free" or "free once every 60 days." They are wrong. They are confusing the @username (paid) with the display name (free). The rest of this page explains the difference and shows you exactly how to change either one.

Practical rule: If your goal is "I want people to see a different name when they play with me," that's the display name — and it's free. If your goal is "I want a completely new account identity, including my profile URL," that's the @username — and it costs 1,000 Robux.

Web browser (roblox.com)

1. Go to roblox.com and log in.
2. Click your account icon in the top-right corner, then click Settings.
3. Select Account Info.
4. Click on your current username (or the pencil icon next to it).
5. Type your new username.
6. Click Buy Username and confirm the 1,000 Robux deduction.

Your friends can still find you — existing friendships, followers, and group memberships are not affected by a username change.

Mobile (iOS / Android)

1. Open the Roblox app and tap the three dots (…) menu at the bottom-right.
2. Tap Settings (gear icon).
3. Tap Account Info.
4. Tap Username.
5. Enter your new username, then tap Buy Username and confirm the 1,000 Robux cost.

Xbox / console

You cannot change your Roblox @username from the Xbox game client directly. Username changes require the Roblox website or mobile app. To change from console:

1. On a phone or browser, go to roblox.com and sign in with the same account.
2. Follow the web browser steps above.
3. The new username will appear when you next open Roblox on Xbox.

Web browser

1. Go to roblox.com and log in.
2. Click your account icon → Settings.
3. Select Account Info.
4. Click the pencil icon next to your Display Name.
5. Enter the new display name and click Save.

Mobile

1. Open the Roblox app → three dots menu → Settings.
2. Tap Account Info.
3. Tap Display Name, edit, and save.

You can only change your display name once every 7 days. If the save button is greyed out, you've changed it too recently.

Before spending 1,000 Robux, make sure your new @username will be accepted:

• 3–20 characters
• Letters (a–z) and numbers (0–9) only
• At most one underscore — not at the start, not at the end, not consecutive (__)
• No spaces
• No Unicode or special characters (those belong in the display name)
• Cannot impersonate Roblox or another user
• Must pass Roblox's content filter

Is it worth spending 1,000 Robux on a username change?

Depends on how much a name matters to you. At roughly $0.01 per Robux (buying the 10,000 pack), it's about $10 — which feels significant for a cosmetic change. Before spending, check whether the display name (free) gives you what you actually want.

My new username is taken — what do I do?

If a name is taken, someone else already owns it, even if the account looks inactive. Inactive accounts are not automatically released. The generator on the Roblox Username Generator page checks availability so you can find genuinely open names before committing.

What happens to my old username after I change it?

Your old @username becomes available for someone else to claim. If you have a rare or short username, it could be claimed very quickly — potentially within minutes. There is no way to reserve or reclaim a username you previously held.

Do my friends still see me after a username change?

Yes — existing friendships, followers, and group memberships carry over. Friends may briefly see your old name in their friend list until their client updates, but the connection is not broken.
