Fancy fonts for Threads: style your bio & posts.

Threads has no font picker, and the post box and your bio have no bold or italic button. The workaround is Unicode text: characters that look like bold, cursive, or gothic letters but copy and paste like normal text. Only a text attachment, the long-text add-on to a post, has its own bold and italic formatting.

Only inside a text attachment. Since September 4, 2025, Threads lets you attach up to 10,000 characters of text to a post, and that attachment has native bold, italic, underline and strikethrough. The post itself (500 characters) and your bio still have no formatting options, which is why Unicode fonts are the standard workaround there: characters like 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱 and 𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤 are separate Unicode letters that look formatted, so they survive copy-paste anywhere plain text is allowed.

Threads doesn't use a custom branded typeface: the app renders text in your device's default system font, which is why it looks slightly different on iPhone and Android. You can't change the interface font, but you can change how your own text looks by pasting Unicode-styled characters from UltraTextGen. Those keep their style on every device that supports them, because the styling lives in the characters themselves.

Not technically, and that's the trick. Each style here is a set of Unicode characters (like the cursive 𝓪𝓫𝓬 or gothic 𝔞𝔟𝔠 alphabets) that belong to the same character standard as regular letters and emoji. Because they're characters rather than installed fonts, they work anywhere Threads lets you type: your bio, posts, and replies. Your followers see the same styled text you do, no app or font installation needed on either end.

Tip: some styled characters count as more than one character toward length limits, so if your bio gets cut off, shorten it slightly and preview before saving.

No, your @username is shared with your linked Instagram account and only accepts plain letters, numbers, periods, and underscores, so styled characters won't save there. Unicode styling works in your bio and in the text of your posts and replies. Your profile name is also managed through your linked Instagram account. If a styled name is accepted there, it shows up on Threads too.

The core styles (bold, italic, cursive, gothic, bubble) are widely supported and render correctly on modern phones and computers. A few rare decorative styles use characters that older devices may not include; on those devices they can show up as boxes (▯). If a style looks broken in your own preview, pick an alternative: the popular styles are the safe ones.

They can be, when overused: worth knowing before you style a whole post. Screen readers often announce styled Unicode letter-by-letter or skip it entirely, which makes long styled passages difficult for visually impaired followers. Styled text also doesn't match plain-text search: 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 won't match a search for "hello" on Threads or on Google.

Best practice: use styled text as an accent (your name, a short headline, a key word) and keep the body of your posts and anything you want to be searchable in plain text.
