Pickle (, U+1FADD) is one of nine new emoji in Emoji 18.0, the emoji companion to Unicode 18.0, and both were published on September 16, 2026. Its codepoint has an unusual backstory: U+1FADD was originally reserved for a proposed "Apple Core" emoji in the Emoji 17.0 draft cycle; that proposal was deferred, and Unicode reassigned the freed slot to Pickle for the 18.0 cycle instead. It was a draft candidate until September 2026, and Unicode 18.0's emoji data now lists U+1FADD as "pickle", fully qualified. It depicts a whole pickle (a pickled gherkin), distinct from the existing Cucumber and Eggplant emoji it's most often joked about alongside: tech-press comment sections have floated everything from "that pickle is going to break the internet" to speculation it'll "take a lot of business from" Eggplant. Final does not mean it is on your keyboard yet. Google has published its design in the Noto Color Emoji font, but as of September 25, 2026, no operating system, keyboard, or system emoji font ships it, so expect a blank box or placeholder glyph until your platform adds Emoji 18.0 support.
