Scared Kaomoji

Shaking, hiding, screaming and running away, all drawn in text. Tap a frightened face and it lands on your clipboard.

A scared kaomoji shows fear through three tricks. Stacked brackets like ((( ))) are motion lines, so the whole face reads as shaking. A wide-open mouth such as Д or ロ is a gasp or a scream. A semicolon beside the face is a bead of cold sweat. Faces peeking around ┬┴┬┴┤ are looking out from behind a wall, and ε=ε=ε= is a dust trail left by someone running off. People use these for horror films, jump scares, exam results and any message they are nervous to open. For the 😨 😱 picture versions, see the scared emoji page linked below. A few faces use Yi or Lao letters for the eyes, and an older device may draw those as boxes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Scared Kaomoji, Answered

What do the brackets around (((;ꏿ_ꏿ;))) mean?

Each extra bracket is a motion line, the way a comic artist draws vibration around a shaking character. The semicolons are sweat drops and ꏿ, a letter from the Yi script, gives the big round eyes.

What does ガクガク mean next to a kaomoji?

ガクガク (gakugaku) is Japanese onomatopoeia for trembling or knees knocking together. Put in front of a shaking face, it spells out the fear in sound as well as in shape.

What is the difference between a scared and a shocked kaomoji?

A shocked face like Σ(゚ロ゚) is a single moment of surprise and can be good news. A scared face adds signs of fear that last: shaking brackets, sweat, hiding behind a wall or running away.
